Memory Dress is a visual arts project conceptually exploring the idea of how individual and collective memory is imbued within items of dress. The creation of items of clothing for special occasions has long been ingrained with particular care and significance and it is a tradition becoming lost in our society where readymade items are cheap and disposable. The Memory Dress project explored this cutlure shift and created a series of propositionary pieces to embody a fragment of memory or commemorate a loved one. Visual artists Marie Brett and Charlotte Donovan initiated and led the project with multiple patients, staff amd visitors from St Finbarr’s Hospital Cork, supported by Triskel Arts Centre.
