The Shadow Traders are coming, what happens when two artists explore the forsaken? Our losses recalled, be they people, things or times come weighed with the intermittencies of the mind, murmurings of inner inconsistencies that never quite grasp what has been and what remains to us in the wake.
SCULPTURE | MIXED MEDIA | RESEARCH
Shadow Traders is an installation utilising discarded memorabilia, large quantities of coloured pigment and alter like platforms / shelving, exhibited at Triskel arts centre Cork.
Referencing a Kunstkabinett filled with unfashionable objects, smells and leftovers of private collections, the ongoing collaboration of visual artist Marie Brett and visual artist/ art therapist John McHarg conceptually explores Stephen Greenblatt’s writing on ‘resonance and wonder’ in creating artworks that proposition a recovery of contemporary resonance and potential wonder from unwanted, inert objects. Shadow Traders “engages audience participation amid the transience of shadows, where dream and memory contrive in somnambular tension.”
