IMMERSIVE INSTALLATION WITH LIVE PERFORMANCE
Sited within and responding to an ex-military coastal fort, Torpedo takes the form of an immersive promenade trail through underground tunnels, vaulted ammunition stores and sea-level engine rooms; this highly atmospheric, subterranean experience was torch-lit and incorporated large-scale video projections, kinetic sculpture, sound and live performance. Conceptually the piece explores the relation of Foucault's Pendulum and the fort's Brennan Torpedo (only eight in the world) amid ideas of continuity, change, cause and consequence in relation to the fort's geographic site, architectural heritage and usage. The work was made by collaborating artists Marie Brett & John McHarg as part of an artist residency, working in close consultation and collaboration with the fort's varied community of interest.
Torpedo was presented with Cork Midsummer Festival and located temporarily at Camden Fort Meagher, in Cork Harbour, Crosshaven, County Cork, Ireland
